JASON: Grow Up
This week, Renaissance Road Church begins sign-ups for growth groups. And you’ll be able to find a group for just about anything, from women’s self defense to serious, deep Bible study. I’ve said this before, and I say it here, growth groups or small groups or lunches with your Christian friends are the best way for you to grow up in God. Here’s why:
1. Sunday morning church alone doesn’t cut it. Yes, Sunday mornings allow for the ministers to pour God into you, but they give you very little opportunity for feedback from the people who care about you.
2. In growth groups, you can let your hair down and be yourself. You can take the mask off. Let’s be honest. We all wear masks, and I’ve found that it is impossible to grow in God while wearing a mask. God doesn’t honor masks.
3. Growth groups give you what you need when you need it. If you’ve got an issue or a problem, the people there can talk to you about it right then. They can give you their input right then. There is nothing like knowing you’ve got the support and counsel of close friends.
4. And the counsel you get there is incredible. We all have different places we go to for answers: prayer, Oprah, a magazine. But few things are as powerful as having other followers of Christ give you real, true, unbiased, from-God counsel. It’s like drinking from a fire hydrant.
-So there you have it. I don’t think you can afford not to be a part of a growth group.
“Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.” -Proverbs 11:14
