JASON: What if You Got Double?
“When they had crossed, Elijah said to Elisha, “Tell me, what can I do for you before I am taken from you?” “Let me inherit a double portion of your spirit,” Elisha replied. (2 Kings 2:9 NIV)
Here’s the story. Elisha is about to take over for Elijah. Elisha is about to become THE man, THE prophet. He is about to do miracles that the world will only see once. His one request … double.
Don’t we pray those prayers? “God, double me! Help my finances! Heal me! Fix my marriage! Repair my grades.”
But do you want to know what separates Elisha from us? He acts like the prayer he prayed is actually going to happen. He follows Elijah from town to town to town like a groupie. Why? Because his double is coming. Elijah tries to get Elisha to part ways with him, but Elisha keeps going anyway. Why? Because his double is coming.
Sometimes, okay all of the times, God is waiting on your faith to move in the space between your prayer and his answer. He is waiting on you to act like it has already happened. Because, guess what, in a spiritual reality that we can’t see or hear it has already happened. Your faith is the way you perceive the things that you can’t yet see or here.
And because Elisha acted like he had double before he actually got double, Elisha parts rivers. Elisha raises the dead. Nature catches up to supernature, and Elisha gets double.
What if you acted like it has already happened?
